    • Shower for Mrs. Robert Hill, Nee Florence Holmes

      Mrs. Morris D. Wallon, of Lancaster, entertained at a variety shower last evening for Mrs. Robert Hill, nee Florence Holmes, whose wedding of last December was recently announced. The gifts were hidden in out-of-the-way places and discovered by armed alarm clocks. Bridge was the planned entertainment of the evening, favors going to Mrs. Lyle Kline, Mrs. Ross Holmes and Mrs. Wayne Hannah. Mrs. Hill receiving the guest prize. A buffet supper was served at 11 o'clock, roses being used in decoration of the dining room.

      Mrs. Leroy Kasten Entertains for Mrs. Robert Hill

      Mrs. Leroy Kasten entertained at a shower last night for Mrs. Robert Hill at her home 1032 East Stephenson street. Games and contests were the order of entertainment, prizes going to Mrs. Elmer Hill, Mrs. Archie Schwarze and Miss Marjorie Hill. Mrs. Hill was presented with a handsome chair and table. Supper was served at 11 o'clock at a table prettily decorated with garden flowers.

      Florence Baun Hill of Temecula, Calif., former Freeport resident, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2008, in Temecula. Born Nov. 9, 1913, in Freeport, she was the only child of Ross and Mary Baun Holmes. Florence attended Freeport High School where she played cornet in the band and was on the honor roll. She worked many years for local insurance companies. After the death of her husband, Robert L. Hill, Florence moved to Temecula in 2002 to live with her son, Gerald "Jerry" and daughter-in-law, Carolyn. She always thought of Freeport as home, but enjoyed many activities with the senior center and sightseeing trips around the southwest, and visits to her family.
      Surviving besides her son and daughter-in-law, are grandsons, Gregory (Linda) Hill of Danville, Calif., and Douglas (Anne) Hill of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
      Florence loved to keep in touch with the news of Freeport and was an avid Cubs fan. Thanks to her friends and Gary and Susan Eilders, Robert's nephew and wife of Freeport. Florence attended Hope Lutheran Church in Temecula and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport.
      A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Oakland Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Willis Schwichtenberg officiating.
