      ALD. HENRY HILL’S FATHER SUCCUMBS

      JOSEPH HILL, ILL MANY YEARS
      DIES SUNDAY AT AGE
      OF 80

      Another pioneer resident of the city was taken by death when Joseph Hill passed away Sunday morning at 2 o’clock at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Daehn, 54 Chippewa street. Mr. Hill has been a sufferer of asthma for the past sixteen years. He has been more or less incapacitated for the past few years. His conidition, however, did not become serious until two weeks ago. Since that time he has gradually failed.
      Deceased was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, December 15th, 1833. He made his home there until 1871, when he came to America and direct to Freeport, which place has been his home ever since. He was married to Miss Caroline Schweager in Germany before coing here. His wife died a year ago July 8th. He made his home at 65 Shawnee street for a great number of years, but has lately lived with his daughter, his son, Alderman Henry Hill, occupying the old residence.
      Mr. Hill was a member of the German Lutheran church, which he helped found thirty-three years ago, and he has always been very active in church work. He has always been known as a hard-working, honest man, and through his sterling character has won many friends. He was very well known about the city.
      He is survived by the following children: Louis Hill, of Lancaster; Mrs. John Krueger, Mrs. August Kettelhut, Mrs. William Daehn and Alderman Henry Hill, all of this city. Twenty-one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive Mr. Hill.
      Funeral services will be held at the Daehn residence, on Chippewa street, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The Rev. A.C. Landeck will officiate. Interment will be made in the city cemetery. The pallbearers will be grandchildren of the deceased: Otto and William Kettelhut, Albert and William Hill, and Walter and Albert Krueger.
