    1. [S171] Obituary: Butts, Mary Frances.
HEART ATTACK IS FATAL. Mrs. S.T. Butts Dies Suddenly Early This Morning. An attack of heart disease proved fatal at 3:50 o'clock this morning to Mrs. Mary Francis Butts, wife of Shannon T. Butts, 616 Parsons street. She was ill but 20 minutes, and died before a physician arrived, difficulty being experienced in getting in touch with a doctor. Mrs. Butts was 66 years old. She had been afflicted with heart disease for some time, but was able to be up and around as usual yesterday, visiting at the home of a neighbor during the afternoon. About 3:30 o'clock this morning she awakened Mr. Butts by calling to him to get up. He met her in the middle of the room and laid her back on her bed when she collapsed, running to a neighbor's residence for aid. When he and neighbors returned to the house Mrs. Butts was unconscious and efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. Mrs. Butts had resided in Carthage 17 years, coming here with Mr. Butts and their family. Besides the husband five grown children survive, none of them being at home. The children are: Mrs. Belle Roberts, Mrs. Bessie Moore and Joe Butts, all of Carthage and L.F. Butts, who is in some western state. Two sisters, Mrs. Emma Wingate of Kansas City and Mrs. Sallie Ratliff of Colorado, also survive. Mr. and Mrs. Butts were married 51 years ago at Monroe, Mo., their wedding date being September 15, 1872. Mrs. Butts was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, South. Funeral arrangements had not been made today. Services probably will be held tomorrow or Wednesday at the Knell chapel with the Rev. Walt E. Hill of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, in charge.
