Florence Baun Hill of Temecula, Calif., former Freeport resident, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2008, in Temecula. Born Nov. 9, 1913, in Freeport, she was the only child of Ross and Mary Baun Holmes. Florence attended Freeport High School where she played cornet in the band and was on the honor roll. She worked many years for local insurance companies. After the death of her husband, Robert L. Hill, Florence moved to Temecula in 2002 to live with her son, Gerald "Jerry" and daughter-in-law, Carolyn. She always thought of Freeport as home, but enjoyed many activities with the senior center and sightseeing trips around the southwest, and visits to her family.
Surviving besides her son and daughter-in-law, are grandsons, Gregory (Linda) Hill of Danville, Calif., and Douglas (Anne) Hill of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Florence loved to keep in touch with the news of Freeport and was an avid Cubs fan. Thanks to her friends and Gary and Susan Eilders, Robert's nephew and wife of Freeport. Florence attended Hope Lutheran Church in Temecula and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Oakland Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Willis Schwichtenberg officiating.
